Lock-ins … if you want my honest opinion, the person credited with inventing these things should be strapped to a tree in the middle of a Chicago winter, wearing nothing but socks, boxers and a ski cap!

on a side note – I just recently returned from Chicago when the big snow storm came through. I was at a conference that was just finishing up when the blizzard hit. What was really bad, I was at Chicago’s Midway Airport, on the runway getting ready to come back to Kansas City, when a Southwest passenger jet slid off the runway and struck some cars in a local intersection. I had to spend the night inside the airport with thousands of stranded travelers. Crazy!

Teenagers, nothing against you, but any group of people forced to stay in one location for an entire night with no sleep, constant basketball tournaments and pizza as far as the eye can see … I need three days to recover from one of these things. This year will be the first year that I have decided to lead worship for one of these events, and the Friday before New Year’s Eve, no-less. Not only do I get to stay up all night on Friday night, I get to then stay up to ring in the new year on Saturday.

Youth leaders and even coordinators, read-up. I recently did an event similar to a lock-in, except this was a lock-out. Instead of being confined to one place, this event had three or four different locations throughout the night. It served really well to break up the night and provide a little sanity to all the leaders. Another “lock-in” type event that I did about a year ago was a late-night progressive dinner. It started around 11:00 PM and ended around 5:00 AM. There were about 12 different stops at various homes along the way where a different portion of a meal was served. This was a very interesting event, but really pretty cool; and, the students really enjoyed the event. It was an event unlike any that they had ever done before (probably the coolest factor of them all).

Anyway, Friday, December 30 I travel back to my hometown of Springfield, Missouri to lead worship at one of these wonderful lock-ins. I actually haven’t been told much about it, so there’s no telling what’s going on. I will be hooking up with my former bass player and drummer (Rob and Clifton) and adding some keys with my buddy Mike Chatman. If nothing else, it will be a great night for worship and reunion with old friends. Hope to see you there if you’re in the area. Check out the calendar page to see the who to contact for more information.

Later.
