Remembering :: Vita Abercrombie

Vita Dell (Johnson) Abercrombie celebrated her 91st birthday on February 26, 2025. On that same day, as her children were gathered around her, she passed on to her glorious eternal life in heaven to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Vita was born to Ralph and Myrtle (Wylie) Johnson, in Jane, Missouri on February 26, l934.

She was married to Jim Abercrombie on May 8, 1948, and enjoyed 65 years together until his death in 2013. To this union were born six children; Sheryl, Keith, Joe, Becky, Steve, and Sandy.

Jim and Vita raised their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and we are all thankful for and blessed by that. They were charter members of New Hope Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member and attended regularly until her health declined in recent months. The family is very thankful for the constant companionship and care Sheryl has given to Vita in recent years.

Vita was a faithful and industrious wife and mother providing a loving home to her husband and children. She was excellent in providing a clean home and delicious food for her large family. She did a lot of cooking and a lot of laundry.

Vita was a very talented seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and her daughters. She also enjoyed making quilts for her family. Her quilts are a treasure for the family members.

During their marriage, Jim was self-employed and Vita always worked alongside Jim in every way needed. They were a team in everything they did. She and Jim were both licensed brokers in their real estate business in Buffalo, Missouri from 1969 to 1987 until retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Abercrombie; her parents; brothers Arley Johnson, Edward Johnson, and Bill Johnson, sisters Eula Mustain, Leora Armstrong, Emma Austin, Mamie Bittle, and June Ruddick. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Edde Lindsey.

Survivors include three sons; Keith (Terrie) Abercrombie, Joe (Linda) Abercrombie, and Steve Abercrombie; three daughters; Sheryl Lindsey, Becky (Lonnie) Stokes, and Sandy (Bob) Acker; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
