I’m really excited about our new vision and series coming up for our young adult service bible study. As I’ve said before, we started this thing back in May/June-ish with really no vision for it at all. We called it 7|01 out of reference to II Corinthians 7:01 that says,
“Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
We were kind of going for a living pure kind of focus, but we really just let the whole thing flop around like a fish on dry land. There was no real vision or direction or leadership, which led to poor execution … so, we shut the thing down near the end of summer, regrouped the leadership (me, Jonathan, Jim) and visionaries, and have sent this thing into orbit.
We’re really excited about it now. It is now called :: neXt ::, a next-generation bible study aimed at equipping next-generation leaders in reaching the next-generation for Christ. We’ve really tried to take a lot of the “church-y” pretenses out of it so that we can try to be as real with people as we can. Sure we’re still going to have worship times through music and message, but when Joe Blow thinks “church” we want the staunchiness (?) to be removed as far away from this ministry as possible.
Our upcoming series is based on Matthew chapter 1, and is called “Role Credits: The Lineage of Jesus”
Each week there is a different movie theme that corresponds with a different branch in the family tree of Jesus, and is planned to culminate with “The Christmas Story,” the story of Jesus’ birth, on Christmas day.
We’re also approaching this a bit different than before. We are still meeting on Tuesdays, but only going to be meeting together every other week for a live service. The other weeks, we will be posting the text online.
