yeah, yeah, it’s only 20+ days late for the “what did you give/get for Christmas” post, but nonetheless, here goes part of it anyway:
This was one of the things I received that I thought was one of the coolest “gifts” I received … er, gave maybe?
I got a card and a description with this little guy inside. No, I didn’t get the kid, I got the alpaca … maybe I gave the alpaca? Actually, a donation was made on my behalf for half of an alpaca … that’s right, half (not sure which half). Either way, it was a gift that I received that was given in my name to a family in Ecuador through WorldVision.
I dug it b/c it was a way for my family members to include others in their outreach to help those in need around the world.
With a life span of up to 25 years, alpacas are hardy animals. Their soft, highly prized wool — up to 12 pounds a year per animal — fetches high prices and can be woven into essential clothing and household items like blankets and rugs. Plus, they help combat deforestation and aggressive farming techniques that have caused erosion and threatened community water supplies. While grazing, these gentle animals “mow” grass rather than uprooting it, and their soft, padded feet protect pastures rather than trampling them.
