There has been a lot of joy-stealing going on this year, and even more especially as we hit the holiday season running. There are many disruptions in and out of our control that aide in the stealing of our joy through the holidays. I urge you to recognize what it is that you can control … and control it for positive returns of joy. Whether it’s parts of your schedule, your attitude, your daily commute, whatever.
Get past the crazy schedules, the intense programming, the seemingly unending bombardment of this holiday season … take intentional moments to pause and just be still; focus on (a little cheesy) the reason we have a holiday season. Focus on Jesus’ majesty, grace, kindness, forgiveness, …
It seems this year more than any in my lifetime we have more distractions, from constant advertising blitzes to media outlets shoving a bad economy in our face to pressured deadlines at work to even rising conflicts in churches to hectic December schedules … I guarantee if you take time to intentionally stop and put all that aside for even just 5 minutes to be still and talk with God, listen to a worship song (even this song here) … I guarantee it will help make all the craziness that much more tolerable and just maybe even worth it.
David Crowder has been one of my favorites for somewhere around 10 years now. Here’s a little video of “O Praise Him” with a guy walking through the hustle and bustle of the streets of New York. Take a few minutes to be still and watch/listen to this video. Don’t take a phone call. Don’t interact with your email or text messages. Those can all wait for 5 minutes while you re-chargejoy
