Most of you know that my “real” job (how the bills get paid) is as a web designer … if you didn’t, now you do. I love building web sites. I’m an odd mix of Type A and Type B personalities or right and left brain activeness (I even make up words when I need to). I love the creativity that comes with the design aspect of creating sites, and I also love the backend coding that comes with building sites. Standards compliant, cross-browser, section 508 accessibility, CSS(1 & 2), XHTML, RSS, XML, PHP, ASP, flash, etc. Some of the funnest(?) times has been working with another designer and taking their design and turning it into a real working site. This corresponds to my love of creating and writing music matched up with my strictness on details and structure.

One of the great things about working for the agency is that it is very progressive and growing. I can pretty much wear whatever I want (until a client comes in), so in the summers I’m probably wearing a t-shirt, shorts, sandals and a hat. In the winter the only thing that changes are shorts to jeans and sandals to some other shoe. We are also allowed to either have music in our offices or headphones throughout the day. This can be good and bad.

Good when I need to:

  • tune out distractions
  • listen to a new song I’m working up
  • look like I’m not paying attention to the distractions around me
  • have a little personal worship time in the middle of a crappy day (or not crappy, as it may be)

Bad when I need to:

  • pay attention to someone else
  • focus on designing while I’m listenting to some great new tune
  • be paged to the CEO’s office
  • show my loyalties to the company
  • something else could go here

This didn’t start out being a resume-type post for my web design skills, my intention was to more talk about how I need to figure out how I can make this worship leading calling into the position that pays the bills and the web design gig can be the “in my spare time” thing.

I’m just sitting here listening to some songs that I’m working up for future events, and just thinking about how much that’s what I love doing. Crafting, playing, leading, observing, using, singing (insert positive verb ending in -ing here) music, songs and instruments to help other join me in worship of Christ. There are times when I’m listening to a new song and something in it hits me, and there are so many things running through my mind on what could be done (a tweak to the arrangement, an application in a service, etc.).

That’s all for now. I just needed to write this down.

Anyone have any events coming up? I’m available.
