I was just telling someone what an interesting, active, almost crazy week that it’s been. Aside from our usual ministry commitments (Sunday/Wednesday services, Tuesday’s new 7:01 service, children’s ministry, college, singles, young adults), we’ve had some unusually strange experiences this week.

It actually started last Thursday (May 17). My mom and sister came up from Springfield, Missouri to spend the weekend with us. This was the first time they had visited us in St. Louis, and that was cool, but it was also the first time that I was going to be leading worship for the entire congregation at our new church … from bass … for the first time, also. This was also the first time my mom, dad and sister would be at an event where I was leading worship since my very first public event way back in 1995.

Well, dad came up Sunday morning, and then he and mom left later that afternoon, and my sister stayed in town with us – all the way until Friday around 9:00. So, we had Kelbie with us all week, which was no big deal, life goes on and we get to all our commitments.

The weirdness started Tuesday night after the 7:01 service. Me and a couple of guys (Jim and Brian) were standing in the church parking lot talking after the service (really late) when about 11:00 we heard a big crash, tire screeches and saw the power lines above us shaking like mad. This guy had crashed his truck into a telephone pole only about 100 feet away from us. We ran over. He wasn’t moving. Then he moved. Then he fell over. We couldn’t get the doors open. I was on the phone with 911. Seven police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance showed up quickly. They took the guy away. We went home.

The next day (Wednesday) Shelly (Jim’s wife, who watches our youngest) was on a walk with her son and ours, when she kept hearing this faint cry for help. She finally figured out that there was a guy in his back yard who had tipped his riding lawn mower over on a hill on top of himself, and was trapped. Again with the ambulances and emergency services.

The next day (Thursday) my in-laws drove in from Kansas City for the day. We went to lunch. I had driven separately so that I could leave early and get back to doing some web site builds while they were shopping or whatever. I get a call that my wife’s van had run out of gas and they were stuck. So, it’s off to the rescue.

I’m hoping today chills out a bit.
