I think I’m on the brink of something large.
Maybe like the breaking of a dawn.
Or maybe like a match being lit
or the sinking of a ship
letting go gives a better grip
If you’ve ever been in ministry (or any part of Christian life actually) you know that God opens and closes doors and opportunities to reveal and carry out his plan for our lives in furthering His Kingdom. I don’t know why, but it seems like those of us in ministry tend to have a better grip on looking for these doors (strong emphasis on “tend”).
Are we closer to God? Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t think that’s the key. I think as ministers partially responsible for spiritual development and shepherding of parts of the Church body, we should try to keep sensitive to God’s will for our lives both personally and ministerially (I don’t even know if that’s a word).
That’s what’s happened with us recently. My wife’s official title is Director of Youth and Childhood Ministries at our church here in Kansas City. About 5 months or so ago, a church from the St. Louis area called and asked for her resume as they were looking for a Children’s Minister. Having always been on staff as a Student Minister (and we had no wants to leave), we sent it and thought, “ah, whatever.”
NOTE: we had said from long ago that if anyone ever asked or if God opened a door we would continue through it until God shut it
So, as we kind of blew-off St. Louis, God didn’t. After a few contacts and a face-to-face, we thought, “maybe we should really give this some attention.” You also have to understand that if God has called you somewhere and you don’t go, not only are you out of God’s will, but the place you did not leave is out as well … so you’re kind of responsible for a double-whammy.
Long story short, we went in view of a call this past weekend for my wife as the position of Children’s Minister at First Baptist Church O’Fallon, Missouri. They voted. We accpeted. Our last Sunday in Kansas City will be April 15, and then we will begin the journey of ministry in St. Louis.
What does that mean for me? I’ll still keep doing worship events both with the church and for Disciple Now’s, camps, retreats, festivals, college, youth, young adults, etc. O’Fallon has actually exploded with recent growth, so much so that the average age of the community is mid-ish 30’s. The ministry outlets have gone through a bit of a change, and we are going to be starting a mid-week young adult worship service that is patterned a lot after 7:22 in Atlanta that I will be doing some worship leading for.
And, I’ll still keep designing and building web sites. So, for all of you who are decision-makers or influencers in that arena of your ministry, feel free to pop over to the production site, take a look at the portfolio and drop me a line if you need some web work or logos, etc.
Thanks for the time. We’ll keep this thing plugging along.
Later.
I’m finding everything I’ll ever need.
by giving up gaining everything.
falling for You for eternity
right here at Your feet
where I wanna be
I am Yours
