I absolutely love the Christmas season. The music. The spirit. The food. The parties. The jovialness. The shopping … well, not necessarily the shopping. The decorations – trees, lights, snow, etc. The snow – but not the cold that comes with it.
If it were up to me, I would have had our house decked out by Halloween this year. I was excited. This is the first house we’ve been in since we have been married that has a fireplace AND a mantle. It’s a house that we both feel is worthy of getting decked out for Christmas … and it’s already started.
If my wife wasn’t around, I could probably rival Clark Griswold for extreme decoration.
We’ve got a huge lighted wreath up above the fireplace. On the mantle there is a layer of poofy fake snow with a string of lighted garland on top. This isn’t your typical reel of flimsy garland – no – this stuff looks like we went out and cut a bunch of limbs from a pine tree (Alpine Spruce or something?). Next to that we’ve got our tree up. This thing is huge. I didn’t realize just how big it actually was. Yes, it’s fake. Jen says she’s “allergic” to real trees … so we have a bunch of candles and tarts that smell like real trees.
The exterior is next on the list, but right now there just isn’t much time to get it done. Plus with our house in Kansas City, I could use my 6 foot ladder to get up to the roof-line to hang lights. At this house, that ladder only gets me about halfway there. I’ve got to figure a way to get up on the roof this year.
Which brings me to – christmas lights. What kind of lights do you guys use, if any? There is a plethora of options and combinations now. Big bulbs. Little bulbs. Multi-colored bulbs. Single color bulbs (white/blue/green/red/yellow). Icicle strands. Icicle strands w/ dual-colors. Incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs.
I recently read about a new brand of LED Christmas lights from a company called HolidayLEDs. It said something like this:

LED Christmas lights are 90% more efficient than standard incandescent lights. HolidayLEDs lights are extremely durable and will withstand the weight of a heavy duty truck tire so you don’t have to worry about breaking those fragile glass bulbs.
