how do you define whether “church” was “successful” or not? (that may have been too many quotes)

how did we get to the point where the number of events you have become a measure of “success?” i’ve been told that “we” need to do as many events as possible to allow for as many opportunities as possible to bring friends/family/coworkers/classmates/etc to so they can have an opportunity to hear the gospel whereas they may have not otherwise.

man, i’m looking at my December schedule, and it is jam-packed with stuff. I have some kind of event EVERY night this week, and then at least two or three nights a week through December (including Sunday/Wednesday regular services).

when we’re ALWAYS going like this, it’s tough to build real relationships … and (just my thinking) isn’t that where the real teeth of the gospel grab hold – relationships not events? i’m also seeing that it makes it real tough to spend much quality time with family.

am I just way off in left-field?
