Youth camp, summer camp, church camp, T.H.E.E. Camp, Centrifuge, Falls Creek, Student Life … it’s summer and church camps are in full swing!
This year it’s back to T.H.E.E. Camp for Kansas City based worship band, Jamon Abercrombie & autumnSoul. T.H.E.E. Camp originally started at Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri in 1983. In 1992, the philosophy of T.H.E.E. Camp changed. God moved the Camp in the direction of incorporating other churches at camp each year as we began to reach out to students in other states as well as Missouri. The goal was to reach smaller churches who could not afford to have their own experience of this type.
Today, there are over 20 churches involved in T.H.E.E. Camp. Gene Gibbons has been the executive director of T.H.E.E. Camp since its beginning. During the past 20 years, Gene has also been the youth pastor of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. In October of 2003, Gene resigned his position at Second Baptist to begin a full-time camp, retreat, and conference ministry in Southwest Missouri. Of course, T.H.E.E. Camp will continue to take place at Southwest Baptist University in 2005. However, T.H.E.E. Camp is looking at many other venues for the future. The goal is to build a camp and conference center in Southwest Missouri that will minister to people from all over the United States, providing each one of them a piece of The Heaven and Earth Experience!
T.H.E.E. Camp has continued to grow over the years and has changed locations on occasion. This year, T.H.E.E. Camp will host students from all over the region in three separate weeks beginning the week of June 12-17 at Lake Williamson in Carlinville, Illinois. Weeks two and three will be the following consecutive weeks and will be located at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.
