“And so I say to you, She will have forgiveness which are great in number because of her great love; but he who has small need of forgiveness gives little love.”
— Luke 7:47
Jesus is in the house of a Pharisee when a woman “with great sin” begins washing and drying is feet with her tears and hair. The Pharisee condems Jesus in his heart (thinking to himself), to which Jesus replied with a parable of two debts. Both debts were of different amounts (500 & 50). But, as neither could pay, the master forgave both of their debts.
I think it’s human nature to put a value or comparion on sins of ours and others, and then assign certain levels of repentance and forgiveness. I think we get wrapped up in “living right” so many times we put aside the realization that sin is sin and we sometimes miss the great love and mercy that Christ shows us everyday.
Lord, help me not get so wrapped up in myself that I feel I have small need of forgiveness.
